Leaving Funchal, we take the Estrada Monumental (Hotel Zone) towards Câmara de Lobos, with its many points of historical and scenic interest. In Câmara de Lobos, the island’s fishing village and home of the Espada fishermen, we visit the shipyard and take a break in the picturesque streets of the old town. From Câmara de Lobos we take the regional road towards the port of Funchal, passing along the port road to the old town of Santa Maria Maior. From here we go up the old regional road “Rua Conde do Carvalhal” to Cancela. At the Miradouro das Neves we enjoy the view of the imposing bay of Funchal and then head towards Garajau. At the statue of Cristo Rei do Garajau, located on a promontory – similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro – we can take a cable car down to the beach and take a long break. The last stage is along the old regional roads to the city of Funchal.
